Business Phone Number Hosting & Management

Your Business Telephone Numbers Matter

Your business phone numbers are one of your most valuable business assets. They serve as the front door to your company, connect customers to your team, and represent your business identity across advertising, websites, directories, and customer communications.

At POPP, we host, manage, and protect business phone numbers for organizations throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul, greater Minnesota, and businesses nationwide.

Whether you need local business phone numbers, Direct Inward Dial (DID) numbers, toll free numbers, or marketing phone numbers, POPP helps ensure your telephone numbers remain secure, reliable, and fully under your control.

Types of Business Phone Numbers We Host

Main Business Phone Numbers

Your primary business phone number is often the first point of contact customers have with your company. POPP helps businesses maintain ownership, routing flexibility, and reliability for their main published numbers.

Direct Inward Dial (DID) Numbers

DID numbers allow customers to reach employees, departments, or locations directly without going through a receptionist or auto attendant.

DIDs are ideal for:

  • Individual employees
  • Departments
  • Remote workers
  • Multi-location organizations

Toll Free Numbers

POPP hosts toll free business numbers including:

  • 800
  • 888
  • 877
  • 866
  • 855
  • 844
  • 833

Toll-free numbers help businesses establish a professional nationwide presence while allowing customers to contact your company without long distance charges.

Anywhere Phone Numbers

Need a local presence in another city or state? POPP can provide phone numbers throughout the North American Numbering Plan (NANP), allowing businesses to establish local calling presence across North America.

Special Telephone Numbers / Advertising Tracking Numbers

Dedicated phone numbers can be assigned to specific:

  • Advertising campaigns
  • Websites
  • Digital marketing campaigns
  • Print advertising

This allows businesses to track call traffic and campaign performance more effectively.

911 Emergency Services, Safety & Emergency Notifications

POPP configures business phone numbers to support 911 emergency calling, helping protect employees, visitors, customers, and property.

For organizations using the POPP Cloud Phone System, emergency preparedness extends beyond simply connecting a 911 call. We configure the system to generate internal notifications when a 911 call is placed, helping designated personnel become aware of an emergency situation as it unfolds.

Depending on your organization’s needs, notifications can alert management, security personnel, reception staff, or other designated contacts that emergency services have been contacted. This additional awareness can help organizations coordinate internal response efforts, assist first responders, and improve overall workplace safety.

Whether the emergency involves a medical incident, workplace accident, security concern, or other critical situation, immediate internal awareness can make a meaningful difference in response time and coordination.

Business Telephone Number Security & Privacy

Phone numbers and call data contain sensitive business information. POPP takes protecting your phone number ownership and customer privacy seriously.

POPP Protects Your Business Phone Number Ownership

POPP helps businesses maintain visibility and control of their phone number inventory through our management portal and invoicing systems.

We work to help prevent:

  • Unauthorized number changes
  • Accidental service disruptions
  • Loss of phone number ownership
  • Unauthorized account access
  • Unauthorized service requests
  • Fraudulent account activity

Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) Protection

POPP follows strict policies surrounding CPNI to help protect your company’s phone number information, call records, and account details.

Security measures include:

  • Secure online account access
  • Permission-based user controls
  • Authorized contact management
  • Restricted administrative access

POPP does not sell or share your customer proprietary information.

We believe protecting your customer phone numbers and call data is just as important as protecting your customer database.

Authorized Contact Management & Access Controls

Every business has employees who need different levels of access to telecommunications services and account information. To help protect your organization, POPP allows account owners to designate approved contacts with specific permission levels.

This helps ensure that only authorized individuals can request changes, access sensitive information, approve charges, or manage telephone number services.

Three Levels of Authorized Access

POPP Contact Profiles

Full Access

Full Access contacts typically include business owners, executives, office managers, or IT administrators.

These authorized contacts can:

  • Report service issues
  • Request service changes
  • Approve charges and service orders
  • Receive invoices and billing information
  • Access call detail reports and CPNI-protected information
  • Manage account permissions and contacts

Intermediate Access

Intermediate Access contacts are typically department managers, supervisors, or designated administrative personnel.

Depending on account configuration, these contacts may be authorized to:

  • Report service issues
  • Receive call detail reports
  • Coordinate projects and moves
  • Communicate with POPP support personnel

Limited Access

Limited Access contacts are typically employees who need to interact with POPP for support purposes but should not have access to sensitive account information.

These contacts are authorized to:

  • Report service problems
  • Request troubleshooting assistance
  • Request configuration information

Limited Access contacts cannot approve charges, make account-level changes, receive invoices, or access protected call detail information.

Your Business Controls Access

POPP follows the permissions established by your designated account administrators. This ensures requests are handled efficiently while protecting your business from unauthorized changes or disclosure of sensitive information.

Telephone Number Porting

Keep Your Existing Business Phone Numbers

Changing providers does not mean losing your business phone numbers.

POPP handles phone number porting from your current carrier to our cloud-hosted platform, helping businesses maintain continuity while upgrading communications technology.

Our team coordinates the porting process to minimize disruption and ensure a smooth transition.

Benefits include:

  • Keep your existing business numbers
  • Avoid customer confusion
  • Preserve marketing and advertising investments
  • Maintain business continuity
  • Simplify migrations to cloud communications

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I keep my current business phone number(s) when switching providers?

Yes. In most cases, we can port your existing numbers to POPP with little to no downtime. Our team manages the entire process to ensure a smooth transition.

What do I need to do to have POPP port my phone numbers from my current provider?

The POPP representative that you work with to place the order will send you a number porting authorization form to sign, giving POPP permission to transfer your phone number from your old provider. We handle everything from there, and will schedule the transfer to happen on the date and time of your choosing to minimize any downtime.

How do Direct Inward Dial (DID) Numbers work?

A Direct Inward Dial (DID) number is assigned to each user of a VoIP phone system, and in some cases, on VoIP PRI or SIP Trunk services that connect to an on-premise PBX. DIDs allow callers to reach a specific extension or group without calling the main number and being transferred, or using auto attendant.

Can I choose what my outbound caller ID shows when I call out from my business?

Yes, with POPP, you can choose any phone number that you own to be your outbound caller ID number. This may be the main number, a DID number, or other number. You may also choose a caller ID name, with up to 15 characters including spaces.

Ready to Upgrade Your Business Communications?
